a bit? ;-)

Pantani is definitely seen as a tragic character, particularly because of his death, alone in a hotel room. The perception may be that he was a victim of the doping regime, whether true or not[/i]. He was something else to watch, but another false hero in the end.

Regardless, he had character, something hard to find in Armstrong, unless you include being a manipulative lier "character".

the photo articles in rouleur are usually quite good - you do get the really pretentious ones now and again where they do a 10 page photo spread on exploring the narative of the inner beauty of spokes or something.

suppose the big difference between armstrong and pantani is that pantani is seen as a tragic type of person who was spontaneous and a bit wreckless almost on the bike while armstrong was/is a bit of a dick.

In their ongoing campaign to get me to buy their vastly over priced kit there is a good blog on toughest cyclists

Fausto coppi, Jacques Anquetil, eddy Merckx, they don't like him as too good but they keep him in, Tom Simpson and then the Badger, riding liege Bastogne liege in a blizzard in 1980 streaking away from the field. Still suffers from the frostbite. Great picture of hyper focused individual.

Armstrong has rarely featured in any of these Rapha things tho they will push Marco Pantani so not really sure where they stand on drugs? Caught bad, not caught allowed, caught but died Okay? Spoof Rapha site with identical style should be resurrected for special drugs edition?
