I never knew Staggs have a beer garden, but I'll certainly look for it next time I'm there - their beer really is exceptional.

The Steading at Hillend is a good stop on the way back into town from crossing the Pentlands or coming up from Auchendinny. They have some terrible wheel benders, but lots of giant cart wheels you can use instead!

Staggs (aka Volunteeer Arms) behind the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh is my favourite. Great beer (it was presented CAMRA's Lothian Pub of the Year award on Saturday), and you can park your bike in the beer garden or lash it to a lamp post outside. They sometimes show TdF coverage in the afternoon - if there's no football on!

@wangi - I asked for more bike racks too a few days ago, both at the shops and outside Forresters. Whilst there are only a few days left to apply could these be installed on Council land? http://www.sustrans.org.uk/news/scottish-workplaces-could-own-piece-glasgow-2014-commonwealth-games

When I used to wax my moustache I used black and white which is basically Vaseline with parfumerie

My moustache was longer and thinner than Fraser's. Quite gingery tho

I had a job offer at Strathclyde uni doing some research in Barlinnie but this was conditional on shaving off the tache. They allowed me to keep my long hair,

Kay's Bar....I've swapped moustache wax tips with Fraser and annualy tease Geoff as to when his six month stay in Scotland will come to an end.

Once hurt a dog there through over-vigorous ear stroking. Had to hang my head. Not banned, luckily.

@Kaputnik - totally agree. Espy is my all time favourite hangout but it has horrible bike parking. With all the cyclists on the prom, it seems like a missed opportunity. Dalriada is a bit better, mostly in the fact that you can just bring your bike straight to your table if the weather is nice.

@stickman - I'm mainly talking local pubs but open to a guestblog on farther out ones?

Robbie's bar is the good pub on leith walk, but no good for bikes.

I haven't been in any of the Rose street pubs for many years so could not say what they are like but there are racks

Kay's bar remains the best pub in Edinburgh but is most definitely one to walk to. Pubs and walking is something I like to combine.

There are racks near the grey horse in Balerno but the pub is better after dark with the fire going which is hardly conducive to cycling.

There is a pub near the forth and Clyde canal I had a couple of good pints in on a day out to the Falkirk wheel. You can get liquor in the wheel cafe but that is not a pub. But come off the union canal and head along the forth and Clyde wee bit. I am afraid I cannot remember its name.

BikeableJo has Cloisters on the list - which I agree, smashing pub - but the bike parking there is limited to chaining up to the railings.

Agree with this. I was up there a couple of weeks and ended up chaining up against one of those motorbike railings 30 yards down Panmure Place. There's loads of room for Sheffield stands at that junction as it's been traffic-calmed; would be good if CEC put some in.

I'm not much of a pub goer but a group of us from work in Leith cycled out to the pub in Pencaitland a few times. There's a beer garden, plenty of space to leave bikes at the back and there's a cycle-path almost all the way. Can't remember what it's called.

And there's the Gothenburg in Prestonpans. Not a normal pub but a sort of community enterprise so you can take children in. And lots of space to lock up bikes round the back.

Bridge Inn at Ratho, certainly as you can wobble home with only dunking danger rather than actual death. I always go to the Paer Tree after PoP, but I know not why. They do have proper bike racks in the beer garden - maybe it's that. Flotterstone Inn is a good reward for a traverse of the Pentlands.

There are a few bike racks on the corner of Raeburn Place/St Bernard's Row for Hector's and the Stockbridge Tap (my two favourite pubs).

"

For someone who loves a pint as much as I do, I’ve had a chance to scope out quite a few pubs by bike in Edinburgh. It’s surprising how much my mode of transport has changed my social decisions. There is a nice pub on Leith Walk that has terrible unsafe bike parking. I just don’t go.

"
