"a lot of Spaniards around just now, you can tell them easily"

The girls still sport mullets too. Though there is, oddly, no word for 'mullet' in Spanish.

Given the nature of Edinburgh's economy, there are always plenty of "casual" jobs going - i.e. bar work, hotels, restuarants, festival work, temping for financial services etc. And there's alwaysbeen in my memory substantial pool of transient labour from different countries "passing through". It was Australian backpackers for a while who seemed to be working behing every Irish bar in town (back when every other bar in town seemed to be an Irish bar) but apparently it no longer became so profitable/affordable for them to leave Australia when the economic boom caused the Dollarydoo to appreciate. Apparently Irish bars are also no longer as trendy as hipster bars with bare wooden surfaces, burgers served on bits of slate and lots of "American style IPA" on offer. There's certainly a lot of Spaniards around just now, you can tell them easily as they can be heard chatting from 2 or 3 blocks away and they always have better looking picnics than your typical Meadows student barbecue.

I suppose as time passes, different groups of people come and go, having left their home countries for whatever reason (mainly economic) and ended up in Edinburgh given the ease of picking up work in a nice city.

And how there are more Spanish people working in Edinburgh than Polish, but weirdly the Spanish don't appear to be "stealing our jobs"?

I had a Spanish ex-girlfriend who, when the EU was expanded, complained about Eastern Europeans taking the jobs of Spanish people in Edinburgh.

4.6 Only 442 French workers in the Burgh? Hardly enough to form a batallion.

Seems incredibly low. Also, more Italians than Irish?

IWRATS what's the emissions source breakdown of Edinburgh vs. Birmingham?

Scotland often gets beaten for higher household per-capita emissions than the southeast of England, without correction for the colder climate and longer, darker winter nights.

The Parks statistic is something that Edinburgh can be proud of.

I do wish they had kept the colour key for Edinburgh consistent across all charts when comparing with other cities though. Minor niggle.
