It's vital to follow the instructions properly. It works best when used on a clean (and I mean <em>clean</em>) chain with no other lube on it. Even with a new chain, I soak it in degreaser (Morgan Blue in my case) overnight then leave it to dry hanging up. </p> <p>Squirt should then be dripped onto the rollers only. It's not a disaster if it goes elsewhere but it might result in more dirt being attracted. However, that can mean very minor signs of rust on the untreated areas if the chain gets wet. But it is easily wiped off. A second application is recommended before riding in wet conditions.</p> <p>Although I have Squirt on my town bike right now, I end up resorting to wet lube during the colder, wetter months. Admittedly,it's better in the dry than wet in my experience,but it doesn't leave residue all over the rims, cassette and chainrings the way wet lubes do. And I carry the sample bottle they sent me with a top up supply should I need it.</p> <p>Chain care is then a simple case of brushing the chain which removes the loose flakes of wax, taking the dirt with it, before reapplying Squirt if necessary.</p> <p>Right now, I'm just glad that Amazon have finally notified me my long-overdue 23mm Conti GP4000s tyres are available for collection, despite the tracking showing TNT still had them sitting in Belgium for the last week as of this morning! All my best chain lube is OK in the dry/showery weather, but the only chain lube I have that's good for really foul weather is Finishline Green, but it makes such a mess it all needs a complete degunking after a ride.</p> <p>Anyone recommend a good wet-weather lube for a long ride? </p>
