I had a good luck at this last ight. Its a lovely bike. Tyres look a bit large, but I've been slimming mine down from 35s to the present 25s (28s in winter) for fome time now. Looks really good without a rack but I doubt a rack will spoils its looks (or handling). Balders was saying the ready built bike is not a lot of cash! Good choice for someone as an off the shelf bike.

Nice one mate. Offer still stands for a lend of a brooks.

As a recent convert how would you rate the BB7 experience over BB5s?

Brakes are good. :) Thanks again for the calipers @algo, popped new pads in the front and they were sorted.

Rack is currently sitting in the post office, so will be going on at the weekend.

And it will most likely get treated to a Brooks on my birthday. Tried to no avail to fit a Brooks to my previous frame (wouldn't go far enough back), but this frame has different geometry so the seat post clamp has about 3cm of travel in it, so should be ok.

Ah, BL Racing Beige. Ahem, "Sahara Latte" (Sorry, Wilmington).

Looks like it ticks all the commuter boxes. Do you use a rucksack or are you going to put a rack on?

It's not nearly as fun taking the mick out the colour when you just admit it's beige...

Hmm, I remember when I was a junior electronics engineer in my early 20s. My supervisor at the time was called Dave, he was a bearded chap who was a bit boring and flew kites at the weekend. He tended to wear the same 'uniform' to work every day, a striped shirt, a blue or red tie, a v necked jumper, and chino type trousers. We affectionately called him 'beige Dave' due to the different shades of beige his trousers and jumpers he always wore.

Somehow I seem to have turned into beige Dave at work, beige or brown chinos (no v neck though, noooo) and a shirt. I somehow in my old age have begun to like 'earthy' colours, I seem to suit them.

I'm now old enough, and self assured enough to say this bike is beige, and brown. ;-)

I've got my eye on a Kaff as the base for my hypothetical commuter, should I get round to moving out of Edinburgh central. Much as I am fond of wee blue floofy, I dunno if my aging knees will agree with a 10-15 mile commute over lumps without gears and a freewheel.

Planet X generously call that tea and coffee I believe...

looks good - handlebar not too high I don't reckon. New(er) brakes on ok?

After all the trials and tribulations of getting it built, picked it up last night. Photo when it was still clean this morning.

Must admit, haven't ridden a steel road bike in years, but after todays 44miles commuting I can confirm it is 'comfy', and it just seems to fit. I left plenty steerer on it so it is pretty upright, might look a tad silly but better than neck pain for sure.

In terms of ride, it's just nice actually, not too twitchy like my road bike, or sluggish like the CX bike was, but still quite responsive all the same.

It's also a very forgiving ride, it seems to soak up much of the road bumps pretty well, and on the flat once you crank it up to speed it's nice.

Only downside is that after riding the carbon light weight for the last week, it does feel heavy (actually 2 of my carbon bikes in weight), and I could certainly feel that on the hills (this may just be 'Thursday legs' syndrome), but in perspective it's only about 1kg heavier than my old commuter so I guess my legs will live.

Rack has arrived for it, but is sitting in the post office just now.

It seems a bit weird to actually 'like' it, as my last commuting bike was chosen purely as a tool, and nothing more. I never fell in love with that bike as I have my other bikes, maybe I will fall in love with this one too...
