Some of this is done by NIMBYs, especially on the closed road events, the rest by the usual brain dead louts who see it as an opportunity to cause more punctures than usual in their area. The fact that anyone thinks that kind of life-threatening activity is either acceptable or funny is deplorable.

Thankfully, I've yet to experience it on any mass-participation event myself.

Was surprised to find not only had signs been changed throughout the race but there was a large patch of intentionally spread broken glass at the bottom of a steep descent on to a busy main road.

Excuse my language, but that's scumbaggery of the highest order.

I did the CrossBorder 100 about 3 or 4 years ago and that had a lot of signs tamperered with. I ended up doing 108 miles and only didn't end up horribly lost by tagging on with some Berwick Wheelers riders who were familiar with the area.

Maybe the same folk who have been vandalising or destroying speed cameras in the area the past few years?

Took part in my first sportive at the weekend round the 4 Abbeys route from Melrose. Was surprised to find not only had signs been changed throughout the race but there was a large patch of intentionally spread broken glass at the bottom of a steep descent on to a busy main road. It was fascinating to see the different routes people ended up going on Strava and just lucky I had planned it on the gps in advance.

It was a thorn in my fiancées tyre and something catching in my mudguard after being forced off the edge of the road by a 4x4 resulting in a grazed knee that slowed us down in the end rather than the glass or signs but I was very surprised to see the effort someone had gone to to disrupt a charity event with around 150 participants. Unlike the Wiggle events that have had problems in England, as there weren't any closed roads I certainly didn't expect this level of problems.

Anyone else seen similar at events recently?
