If only the could get the cohort of wee NESHERS, that'd be a lot more people not being parted from their bikes.

At work, I use the same approach as DaveC but with a cable added. So a strong U lock through rear wheel and frame attached to the Sheffield stand, then a cable attaching the front wheel to the lock.

At home, I have ground anchors so a different setup is used.

Like this in fact (except you don't need to worry about getting the frame):

It's more likely that someone will bottle jack your d-lock (which is harder with a mini lock around the wheel alone) than bother to saw through your wheel to get the frame.

Yeah, I was going to say that the diagram above is not wrong, but not exactly best practice.

Lock the rear wheel to a secure object through the rear triangle of the frame using the smallest possible D-lock.

To be honest I either don't worry about the front wheel or I take it off and lock using the same lock (a Kryptonite cable only takes a couple of seconds to cut, so it's really for peace of mind / to prevent casual theft).

Sounds like the same gang who had a go at my garage last year; smashed nearly 20 locks first and only then began opening the garages. Very production line. Didnt take anything from mine (contents one Citroen DS23...) but other lost bikes and tools before they were disturbed and drove off. We all got nice new locks from the police for free.

A collegue has had his bike knicked from the new estate on The Strada, theives broke the lock off his shed doors. Triban3 in red. Looks like a gang with a van.

I have a different stratagy for locking my bikes. Dlock through the rear wheel and seat stay (frame and rear wheel) then round the Sheffield stand. If I suspect my front is at risk I'll take it off (quick release) and lock with the rear. The aim is to get everything with the strongest lock (I've had a bike nicked when thieves cut through the cable), leaving no romo for a bottle jack.

A SHREWD cyclist has been reunited with his stolen bike by duping a dopey criminal into meeting him before calmly tipping off the police.

Amateur sleuth David Livey spotted his £500 racer being advertised via an online sales site just days after it was pinched from outside Leith Victoria Swim Centre last week.
