@robyvecchio I'd suggest closing it to motors all year round, but maybe that's extreme.

There was a red Renault last night around 10 PM driving at speed up the Cowgate, revving, cursing and expecting festival goers to get out of the way, dangerous lunatic.
With the number of venues tripling, couldn't Cowgate be closed?

That blog seems to suggest that my preferred route for avoiding a blocked pavement, which is to walk along the road, is to be avoided. Not so. Reclaim the streets, people.

Apart from that, I like its "out of my way peasants" tone.

@twq might have to consider a different route but the trouble is that my bike is parked on cowgate (secure underground place) so I have no option but to go for it, hold primary, and hope that I'm seen!

I agree that they have people queueing for venues there and sometimes the 'queue' is the full width of the pavement so no one can pass. it IS a joke!

And the real problem here...

The narrow pavements and unnecessary clutter (e.g the GIVB stone bollards) furnished upon us by CEC.

A buggy helps. You just pretend it only steers in a straight line.

@beano I've started taking a different route home rather than take on Grassmarket/Cowgate. The traffic is bad enough, even without the tourists wandering into the road. They're not entirely to blame, the "pavement" along Cowgate is so narrow, it's a joke.

That section along past the Cowgate into Grassmarket is horrific!

When I leave about 4:30pm I have to weave in/out and dodge drunken festival goers on the road. I'd hate to be driving a car along there....an accident waiting to happen i'm afraid.
