speaking of silly barriers, there are also sets of barriers I couldn't get the trailer through on Fishwives Causeway (not long after you cross the railway tracks after leaving Moira Terrace, heading in direction of Mountcastle) and also at the end of the Straiton Pond path where it discharges you into Mcdonalds.

Yes, there is still a barrier there although it is easy enough to get past if you dismount (and don't have a trailer).

The alternative route is to take the path opposite the British Gas building on Waterfront Broadway that goes past Edinburgh College. I think that's the one you are referring to? It's probably a nicer route.

Having finally talked Mrs BenN into getting onto her (read 'my old') bike before the summer is out, we are planning a short, quiet pootle with toddler in trailer this weekend from the Botanics to Crammond for a picnic.

I know the NEPN well, but am a bit lost in Granton - Cycle Streets suggests a quiet route, which looks ok ( http://www.cyclestreets.net/journey/41964986 ), but Street View shows a rather nasty looking anti-family barrier at the north end of Caroline Park Avenue ( https://goo.gl/maps/Xo4q6 ). Does anyone know if this is still there? Suspect the route will be impassible if so.

The other option I have looked at is a diagonal path cutting SW to NE through Waterfront Avenue, wich we could use to join the Prom via the first Western Shore Road entrance - again, anyone got any opinions on this path?

Thanks for help, trying to make journey as pleasant as possible so we can have more family trips!
