@chdot: old news! Things have moved on already on that topic!

The tracks are locked onto special sleeper frames via 'chairs' which are levelled and encased in concrete which is also resting on top of a special re-inforced concrete 'raft'.
Have to admit that surface sealing wasn't the best but 'wearing coat' or 'blacktop' and joints/seals is straightforward to re-do. In some concrete cast work it is deliberate to allow it to 'crack' at intervals to allow for movement expansion etc.
Unlikely that whole street will need digging up again.
Press just looking for slightest bit of grief to noise it up!

Digging up Princes Street again

"A source said: “We’re waiting for the results of a study into the defects on Princes Street which will tell us what level of remedial work is necessary. If the foundations won’t support the load placed on them by traffic on the road then the likely course of action is the tram tracks will have to be dug up and re-laid.”"

If they do have to dig up Princes St again then perhaps they could do some canal laying at the same time - another link in the missing Lochrin to Leith section.

Can I just say, well done on maintaining the through route for cyclists. I guess, since pedestrian access would always be maintained, it would have been possible to get off and walk through the Russell Road closure, but I've never understood why a small strip for bikes to pass through is never factored into these things automatically. Even when Shandwick Place was all dug up for the trams I remember talking with chdot about how easy it would have been to have maintained a cycle route along it and actually encouraged cycling at a time that taking the car was becoming a pain for many people.

But. Altogether now. This is Edinburgh.

I remember seeing a video from Amsterdam where major roadworks were taking place. They built a temporary bridge over the roadworks so that cyclists could still use the route!

but then, I guess we need the large fenced of areas for works so that contractors can park their cars somewhere...

Had an entertaining afternoon (mostly) tracing the tram route (and work in progress) west from Haymarket.

As has been mentioned on here there's a path closure near Murrayfield and drainage problem at Edinburgh Park Station.

Now seems the access road at Haymarket Yards is to be closed (not sure if ped/cycle access will be maintained here or through to Russell Road.)

There are other issues.
