"Touché! You have me there."

Perhaps not. Your proposal was -

"Some sort of city circular"

Circling the city doesn't have to be within it at all!!

Flotterstone to Bavelaw has 1.5 miles off road where you can push or take it easy. WoL path a little muddy at mo. Innocent then Bingham Musselburgh white Craig Dalkeith fine. The Roslin path stretch used to be very muddy. If stay on the path to Penicuick there is a very good sweet shop to get you over the hill back to flotterstone again in a

Away alone a last a loved along the

Riverrun by swerve of shore and bend of bay brings us by a commodious vicious of recirculation back to hoŵth castle and environs

Wrong city

Did this one for EDFOC earlier this year and we were in basement bar at Argyle Arms by 9pm.

http://www.edfoc.org.uk/events/event/an-evening-at-the-proms/

Maybe not ambitious enough but a good evening circuit with range of obstacles and surfaces.

Got a few people out including DaveC from here.... was about 20+ miles which is nothing for Audaxers but enough for newbies.

One circular route (anti clockwise) is:

Portobello - Leith - Granton - Cramond - South Queensferry - Kirkliston - Ratho - Balerno - Colinton - Gilmerton - Musselburgh - Portobello

Okay, strays outside Edinburgh proper on the eastern leg, but the alternative, Newcraighall-Portobello is a bit dull.

Could be done clockwise, but the relentless RR route in the south of the city might be a bit wearing for the first half of the journey. Better to have sea views and a bit of nice A90 path to lift the spirits on the outward leg?

I've never yet successfully followed the RR route (using only on-street signage) clockwise, always running out of signposts around Oxgangs/Colinton/Baberton.

Nice suggestion. "Official" tour of the Lasswade Road railway access.

I've always fancied, and never done in its entirety, Flotterstone to Bavelaw.
