So Queensferry street is going to become an absolute death trap nightmare once again. It's already full of double parking taxi's and manoeuvring buses.

Sure those cars will free up tonnes of space to make it a haven for businesses.

There seems to be a strange councilthink going on, where if a street does not have enough cars or traffic driving on it, then something needs done to increase these levels, and if a street has too much cars parking or driving on it then something also needs to be done.

It's bonkers isn't it? They are like a bunch of blowflies trying to get through a pane of glass.

Hey it's clear through here! WHAM!
Hey it's clear through here! WHAM!

We've discouraged driving. Now we need to encourage driving! WHAM!

"

Transport leader Councillor Lesley Hinds said: “Now that trams have been running for a couple of months or so, it’s a good time to make appropriate alterations to traffic management so that we can make it as straightforward as possible to get from A to B in the city centre.

"

Meanwhile in most(?) European cities getting from A to B in the city centre is generally discouraged!

@k "I think Paper Tiger would be surprised to find just how few people drive to them."

Yes and CEC should be compiling such data for the city centre generally and 'celebrating' and promoting P'n'R (not least the one on the tramline.

There seems to be a strange councilthink going on, where if a street does not have enough cars or traffic driving on it, then something needs done to increase these levels, and if a street has too much cars parking or driving on it then something also needs to be done. They really do seem to think they can reach a magic optimum balance of all streets covered in a uniform level of "smoothly moving" motor vehicle traffic and all car spaces filled to 100% capacity but not above or below that level.

City centre businesses should really do a little bit of their own research to find out how their customers get to and from their premises. I think Paper Tiger would be surprised to find just how few people drive to them. Given they offer bicycle delivery from their shop around town they at least appreciate on some level the advantages on offer.

Drivers will be able to turn left into Hope Street from Charlotte Square under the plans, providing direct access to businesses that have been strangled of car traffic.

Eh? Streets can only be strangled with car traffic.

It’s definitely putting off customers coming by car.”

Yay!
