<description>&#60;p&#62;The only way to do it &#34;properly&#34; is to have only one merge point and take it in turns to merge one at a time. As soon as people start joining the inside queue in more than one place it immediately slows down that lane relative to the outside lane.

&#60;p&#62;If everyone did it properly there wouldn't be a shorter queue to race up.

&#60;p&#62;Research by one of the Capital scientist, Dr Guy Walker, found traffic jams can be up to 20 per cent worse because drivers are overly polite.&#60;/p&#62;
