heh. i'd been planning on taking our spare clothes/snack to the meadows in ours (as ortleibs needed for market run) and then reporting back if they;d stayed dry, but my plan was foiled.

just as well, since the other part of my plan involved putting the 3yo in two pairs of waterproof trousers...

And today it was raining and I went shopping with a nice, big, waterproof shopping bag. :-)
Best £10 I've spent for a long time!

I've put a little Aldi emergency light on a bit of elastic that is supposed to go round your bars to dangle off one of the cords on the zips on the side pockets. Turned off it doesn't even look much like a bike light, just some plastic decoration thing.

Is anyone adding a FastRider Shopper to a Blackburn EX1 (no fourth elbowed rearward stay)?

I can currently mount things on it so that they don't get in the way of my heels but that sometimes creates the problem of leaving a lot of insufficiently-stiffened bag flapping away at the back and bothering the wheel, hence the modifications to my current pannier including a bit of wood bolted on the inside attached to the bottom hook.

wingpig I'm not sure if that's an offer or a suggestion, if the former, thank you, but I'm quite keen not to attach anything permanantly to the pannier as one of the nice things about it is that it doesn't look like a cycling bag, if you see what I mean...

Used mine for the first time this morning. No heel strike. Boyfriend has been somewhat dubious about the thing, claiming it will affect the handling of the bike. I didn't notice it at all. Much easier to just dump everything into the bag, and then at the other end unclip the bag and take it into the office, rather than faffing with cramming stuff into a Carradice that is really too small for the amount of stuff I want to put in it.

Result. :-)
(Just need to work out if I can bodge a light and/or some reflectives onto it...)

Used my new pannier for the first time today on the folder. definitely a bit of heel strike. think it would be okay on a 'normal' sized bike though. very handy bag despite that. sits nicely on the bike.

What are the fastening arrangements on the backs of these things? The past few times I've poked at panniers in sales I've come away without anything as nothing looks as easy/secure as my current Vaude hooks bodged on a Karrimor.

Yes, mine is a bit bigger than I would have chosen, I think. I'm hoping I don't get "heel strike" - I have not had a chance to try it out yet. But I do like very much the way it doesn't look like a pannier when it is off the bike. I just need a Dutch bike to go with it now!

Hope everyone's happy with their purchases!

mine arrived yesterday. seems well made/sturdy. definitely pretty large. not exactly the pattern I would have chosen for myself, but not bad.

My plan is to use it to take my clothes in to work, when work is in my normal pannier.

but i also quite like the idea of being able to cycle to stuff, but not lug a pannier around when i get there.

Thanks SRD, I've ordered one for my wife and a couple of capes for my son.

It's a very odd website though. You can't (or at least I couldn't) find out how much postage would cost without registering. It then told me my password was too secure as it contained a capital letter. And then after registering I had to go back into the shopping basket manually. Thankfully they accept paypal so I didn't have to give them my credit card number.
