I have put serious thought into the feasibility of crochetting and cycling at the same time

"

Couldn't you have a mechanically (or electrically) powered machine mounted productively on the rear rack while you concentrated on the steering/braking??

Yes, I have put serious thought into the feasibility of crochetting and cycling at the same time. I could get 3 bunnet rows in on the commute if it were possible.

@iwrat - you may be right. My mother is an excellent crocheter and I have asked her many times to show me how, but we've never succeeded. I have signed up for the wait list though.

Maybe you could talk to MrSRD about a couple of hours of private tuition as a Christmas gift? If MmeIwrats were available and willing.

Very well. Perhaps a private lesson to put you on the right track might be advantageous? My life is testament to the deleterious effects of bad habits acquired through autodidact improvisation.

Madame IWRATS was Scottish crochet champion the year she could be bothered entering. She is quite unconstrained by convention. Network cables, my discarded innertubes, nettles and marine hawsers have all been dragged into her world and emerged as garments or sculpture.

She also teaches, should you ever need a guide in the art of the hook?

So, given that my ambitions to get fit and cycle lots have been put on hold until my chest gets sorted out, I've taken up crochet. I was mildly amused to discover early on that a couple of the popular crochet bloggers were into cycling, but just had the idea of searching 'cycling' on ravelry (massive knitting and crochet forum). Turns out there are at least 6 big groups - including folks who knit along to the Tour and the Vuelta; a 'pro-cycling fan' group; "Two-wheeled knitters:
Knitters (and crocheters) whose only wish is to craft and bicycle at once." and more....
