Mini-DS has twigged that the "magic hat" (my terminology) is now a necessary evil for cycle trips with daddy.

I was a bit late leaving this morning, and he noticed me taking the bike out. There was the sound of high speed crawling, and he reappeared with said magic hat and then held it up so I could put it on him with a big smile.

He couldn't understand why he wasn't coming with me, and there were tears as I left.

Something in my eye...

They used to "help" by pushing on my back and shouting 'push!' as I toiled up the hill.

That scenario could be used in physics textbooks!

We live just past the top of Craighouse Road, so the steep climb up that hill is a regular last part of a journey home.

Both of my rear-seat passengers, when of an age to ride in the Hamax, recognised that the hill was steep and hard work for me with them on board. They used to "help" by pushing on my back and shouting 'push!' as I toiled up the hill.

Take my 2yo daughter on the ride to nursery in the mornings and she has recently taken to yelling "Dooooggggie" or "Birrrddies" at the top of her voice when she sees said animals. We've been getting a few funny looks from pedestrians who obviously resent being woken up...

Four years ago, her elder sister was in the same bike seat and became responsible for me buying my first pair of bibshorts - on the same journey her favourite game was to pull my shorts down as I was cycling, giving local residents a lot more than they bargained for...
