Might be quite a lot of rat piss in that pool? I hadn’t thought it was very deep but old Charles Jencks may have insisted it was deep. The last stepping stone is. Set further apart from the others so maybe this has inspired them to let the people swim.

Strange that I'd never heard or seen of the place before. I used to visit the farm shop next door a lot for bulk bird seed as well!

I'm looking at the route between the canal and Jupiter and cringing however, particularly if they don't have pedestrian access on the back link from Cliftonhall Rd past the cottages. It wouldn't be much of an ask to leave the gate askew during business hours to make the canal link much, much more friendly!

Gembo; watch out! They're not open for their 2016 season until the 14th

think maybe next weekend? the link is blocked to me at the moment.

last year we just cycled through which lets you see the great Jencks earth mounds and indeed the diamond pit which is fab.

They opened the gate to let us out which meant twe could get through to the ratho back road which was nice.

A year membership works out good value if you like te place, cycling out etc, The shop hada sale and I bought a nice vase for my beloved at a good price. The cafe is still in the silver bullet but maybe different folk running it, it remains very good.

I will be visiting again.

Went yesterday.

The route out was canal, coming off (up steps) at Clifton Hall Road, then approaching Jupiter from the west on the B7015 (which is not a particularly quiet or slow B-road, we took the pavement which is quite ridable, surfaced in fine gravel).

There's 5 cycle racks which are an unusual design with hoops hanging down from a supporting frame, not brilliant but they work.

There's no mention of cycling in either their leaflet or on the website.

On the way home went east out the entrance, along the pavement on A71, crossing before Linburn to head up the back road towards Kirkliston, under the railway and then the Long Dalmahoy Road, through Heriot Watt etc.

Back to Jupiter, annoyingly, the east gate into the estate is a big, automatic thing that you need a code for, so you can't access it from this side, which would allow you to cut off any requirement for being on the A roads or circuitous detours to approach from the west if you were coming from canal / Edinburgh. A small side gate for foot/cyclists would be very welcome.

The art itself is excellent, thoroughly enjoyable place. Good café too, although rather pricey (£18 for 2 coffees and 2 sandwiches, then £17 for 2 adults). It ain't a cheap day out. I suppose you could bring your own lunch but picnics are not welcome.

I think the signs are due to grim experience - the map they provide pleads with people not to walk down the sides of the Jencks earthworks, but of course they DO - and last time I was there there'd been a big slip on one of them that will be really hard to fix. Another time, a family had taken over Ian Hamilton Finlay's Temple of Apollo for their picnic.

If you do go, check out Goldsworthy's Coppice Room - it's brilliant.

A couple of new sculptures this season plus they have moved the ticket place next to the carpark which is also where the bikes go as previously the racks were further into the park. This makes it harder just to go to the cafe or sneak in. It is not cheap but they do a family season ticket which is reasonable and they send you invites to openings. You can cycle in and out the road 'bodna described as exit but they do not want you driving that way as it looks like they are keeping peace with their neighbours.

The cafe advertises with a board outside on the street so my view is that it is reasonable just to go in and ask to use the cafe only. It is a gret cafe and a great sculpture park
