spitfire - not sure who you work for, but Cycling Scotland has loans or grants (depending on the size of your company) available for improving cycling infrastructure, such as new cycle parking for workplaces that have or are working towards the Cycle Friendly Employer Award:

---

Cycling Scotland has teamed up with the Energy Saving Trust to offer Interest Free Loans to private sector organisations to install cycle infrastructure measures towards becoming Cycle Friendly Employers.

Loans of up to £10,000 are available to private sector workplaces with more than 2,000 employees, loans of up to £5,000 for sites with more than 1000 staff, and loans of up to £2,500 for smaller sites.

For further information and an application form visit http://cyclingscotland.org/cyclefriendlyemployer.aspx

Workplace Grants to SMEs

With continued support from the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives, Cycling Scotland are pleased to launch the 2010 Workplace Grants to support organisations towards becoming Cycle Friendly. Grants of up to £2,000 are available to provide incentives and promotional activity for staff. Priority for the grants will be given to Small to Medium Sized Organisations (SMES) that can demonstrate commitment to increased staff cycling to and from the workplace.

For further information and an application form visit http://www.cyclingscotland.org. The submission deadline for Workplace Grant applications is the 22nd October 2010

To qualify for the loans and grants employers must be registered with Cycle Friendly Employer. If you have not already done so, you can register your organisation online and complete a short self-assessment at http://www.cyclingscotland.org. This is a quick and easy process, and allows us to feedback recommendations and an action plan.

For more information visit http://www.cyclingscotland.org#

---

Might help with your overflowing cycle parking!

A surprising number of people cycle to my office (well, compared with zero at my last office I suppose I was going to be inevitably taken aback).

The boss got a bike quite recently, and was pleasantly surprised that he can save 10 minutes cycling in from Barnton to Leith vs the car.

In fairness we've got a stonking proportion live in places like Kirkcaldy, Duns, way up in Perthshire, Glasgow, and had people in Stirling and Berwick (as in 'upon Tweed', not 'North') till recently.

And the rest live within 5-20 minutes walk. One person I converted stopped over winter, and hasn't been able to get re-started, so instead drives (from the bottom of Easter Road to Melville Street!) and then runs at lunchtimes.

I think I'm one of only about 3 people in here for whom cycling would actually make sense - one cycles 2-3 times a week, and the other is the one who has gone back to the car and running...

I still think some genuine guerilla action creating graffiti on the bike lanes like this would be great!

Sadly I've been working on getting people in here cycling for 5 years now. Only ever managed one extra person... :(
