What's a "dedicated transport hub"?

Making the car park at Curriehill Station much bigger, and then building a mini-supermarket to serve all the extra people who will use the station as a park and ride.

The high school is way under capacity. The primaries would struggle. There is another doctor at the university. These Currie folk need to get their facts right.

1500 new homes = 3000 cars.

Is 2 cars per household the norm then?

Sad but probably true...

From the article

Edinburgh Pentlands MSP Gordon MacDonald said the community would fight the plans, saying the nearby Calder Road was already “like a car park”. He said: “The proposals are going to create in the region of 3000 cars. There’s no way the public transport system can cope with any more people. In the south-west of the city, there just isn’t the infrastructure for more housing.”

I suppose they could try running more than one train an hour from Curriehill - or increase the number of carriages from two to four. All it would need is a slight adjustment to the timetable. They could also extend the routes of the many and frequent buses to Riccarton by an extra quarter-of-a-mile. Of course, the real problem's not the public transport but the fact that most homes would probably end up with two cars that all need to fit on the road somewhere.

Also:

“People are concerned that the doctors’ surgery is almost full, and getting an appointment is practically impossible. The schools are near bursting point now, especially the high school.”

Apart from the completely empty school, of course, which is lying un-used.

Plans for a new 1500-home village at Riccarton with shops, a school, and a dedicated transport hub have been unveiled by developers.

Details of the huge Wallace Land project on a greenbelt site north of Currie were revealed at a community meeting on Tuesday. But the proposals sparked concern from local residents, who warned the plans would swamp the area with new car traffic, and place impossible strains on schools and GP practices.
