Oooh, I like that speed wobble theory - unfortunately I was going about 10mph !

Wheels are pretty standard mavic 32 spokes, but on reflection it did feel a little like the mudguard judder scenario.

Amir, I probably did death grip the bars, but it was all over pretty quickly.

Might leave early to see if I can find the computer - not holding out much hope. Cheers

Mudguard flexing in the gust and rubbing against the studs? If it caught them right at the base of the guard you might get some juddering.

Or some bizarre resonance/aerofoil effect (not sure that's a thing...). Aero spokes or front forks?

What materials and spoke count?
I sometimes get a low whistle created by some interaction between the mudguard stays/fork/spokes and a strong wind from four or eight o'clock which is enough to start the mudguard resonating with quite a noticeable thrumming, but never the wheel.

Sounds a bit like my big-off. I never fully got to the root cause but suspect it was a pinch-flat and/or buckled wheel caused by a cattle grid. But there was also quite a gusty breeze. Nasty.

Did you clamp your hands tightly on the bars after the gust by any chance?

Very odd one this morning.

Abbotsford Crescent heading for Colinton Road about 6.45, I was hit with a sudden gust of wind - nothing too unusual about that.

But my front wheel started vibrating like crazy - it only lsted a couple of seconds, but I am pretty sure I would have been off had it not happened in a straight line.

It was so odd, I stopped, checked the bolts, mudguards, even the (studded) tyres. Nothing untoward but very very disconcerting.

anyone ever had similar?

p.s. Reason its in the Computers/Smartphones section - Got to work and realised I was missing my (old but reliable) speedo - suspect it was there
