The EEN article is OK, but the Tatler thing is complete and utter nonsense. I can't blame SMPS for taking advantage of an opportunity for PR, but it doesn't actually mean anything.

I imagine the Tatler research went something like this:
"Good morning Hermione, it's Charlie Bufton-Tufton from Tatler here. You live in Edinburgh don't you? Do you know any schools with a good reputation".
"Well we send Alexandra and Xavier to Loretto, obviously, but I heard someone in Waitrose say that South Morningside is OK"

Last year it was Sciennes...

"How embarrassing that they think this is something to celebrate"

Opinions of Tatler aside, an overfull school doesn't really need lots of 'out of catchment placement requests'...

SRD - I tend to agree. I think it was nicely summed up by Mrs Morningsider, who said "How embarrassing that they think this is something to celebrate. Have you read Tatler – total p. take."

I had a glance through the 2014 listings. They read more like they were written for an audience of 1914.

My friends who are parents there, on the parent council etc, were not amused.

One of those in the picture is mini-Greenroofer (says proud parent).

Mrs Greenroofer gave permission for her to appear, but not to be interviewed on the basis (and I quote) "of the quality of EEN journalism"

"

South Morningside Primary is celebrating making it into Tatler magazine’s latest ranking of the top 12 state schools in Britain.

Editors at the high-society bible said researchers had included the school – the only primary in Scotland to be included – after looking at factors including pupil performance, teaching methods and facilities.

They said South Morningside had emerged as one of a number of council-run schools attracting parents struggling to afford rising fees at
private institutions.

The new guide tells readers: “These days, the smuggest mummies aren’t those at the gates of the shiny preps – they’re the ones who’ve snagged a place at the best state primaries.”
