What happened to the plans to signalise the Orchard Brae / Crew Road South junction? Think it was mentioned in the Telford College South plans that it was a medium term plan. (it also mentioned Crew Roundabout but that was mega bucks)

Think the plan also mentioned closing off Orchard Road (given it's a rat run)

I see that the pedestrian island on Crewe Road South at the Orchard Brae roundabout is flagged for an upgrade. The junctions at this roundabout from Orchard Road and Craigleith Road were also assessed but didn't have the required points score to do anything about them. I wish they would look at this roundabout as a whole rather than a series of discrete junctions, especially with Flora Stevenson's Primary School right next to it. It would be a great place to trial a dutch style roundabout with priority for cyclists and pedestrians.

Not sure why some people are against crossings "because they slow traffic down".

The alternative is that people (old and young included) cross at an area where traffic has not been slowed and hence place themselves in danger.

No right thinking person would argue against that point surely?

A crossing thereabouts on Pilrig street would also be helpful with Dryden street, opposite Cambridge Avenue, being a regularly used route to get over the railway and onto McDonald Road..so anything that slows down the Pilrig Street through traffic would be a bonus.

"Given generally low car ownership/access levels in Leith"

Pilrig a bit different, especially round the colonies, Victorian terraced houses and Georgian terraces further north. Some of these residents will I suspect complain vociferously if on-street parking is threatened...

Also pretty sure a prominent and vocal member of Leith Central CC lives in Pilrig, and has prior form on "parking concerns"...

Sigh.

That'll be here then -

Parking obviously more important.

The South Gyle Crescent crossing has never appeared, which was a priority on a previous list after a fatality in the is location.

Given generally low car ownership/access levels in Leith, you wonder just how balanced those consultations with the local community are or if they're just listening to the noisy blowhards.

From slightly further down,

"Due to the potential loss of on-street parking it has not been possible to take a workable locally acceptable solution to construction on Pilrig Street at Cambridge Avenue. This location will therefore remain on the priority list until all potential pedestrian crossing options are explored with the local community and local members."

From the recent transport committee minutes regarding new pedestrian crossings,

"Ferry Road at Dudley Avenue has also been removed from the priority list [for new pedestrian crossings] as site surveys and initial design indicated that a scheme cannot be constructed here due to the road layout"

seems a real shame as it seems a very natural place for a new pedestrian crossing. The road layout issue is presumably that there's a bus stop which would need to be moved, resulting in the loss of a couple of parking spaces...
