It was all very interesting to follow on twitter. Interesting that there were some great mistakes made by the lobbying group against, including people "accidentally" leaving the draft comments from the canary wharf lobbying group in the letter they sent in saying no to the consultation on behalf of their business.

There was also an interesting picture showing the commute that the head of canary wharf group (?) made and it's basically all the way along the planned cycle superhighway - question was just who exactly is he trying to represent.

in the comments: "And I hope John Armitt is suitably ashamed when he finds out that as he was declaring that "cyclists' biggest danger is themselves", a coach belonging to his company (National Express) ran over a cyclist at Marble Arch."

is this true?

Yes we can learn. Segregated cycleways on MAIN ARTERIAL ROADS. Just like the good Professor from Lancaster recommended at the Spokes meeting last year. We have to stop this half-hearted rubbish on side-streets, that is so unintuitive, that most locals don't even know how to navigate it.

Crossrail for bikes is the central plank of the Mayor’s £913 million “cycle revolution for London”.

So by a rough rule of thumb Scotland should be spending at least £90 million on cycling (!)

Mind you the actual £15,800 million Crossrail project is a lot more - £900 million is small beer by London standards.

'MPs have praised the £15.8bn Crossrail project but have warned there are "considerable risks" in delivering the scheme by its target of 2019.

'The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee said it was a "textbook example of how to get things right".

Businessman and cyclist Chris Kenyon from CyclingWorks.London said:
“Rarely if ever has a scheme by TfL gathered so many CEO-level signatures of support. Surely that is the big story. The backers represent every major industry sector and show that Londoners are in it together and believe that it's time for kerb protected lanes in the heart of the city.”
