"

In 2008, following the adoption of the West of Edinburgh Planning Framework, New Ingliston was a founding partner in the West Edinburgh Development Partnership, a collaboration of public and private bodies including Scottish Government, City of Edinburgh Council, Transport Scotland, Edinburgh Airport and the Royal Highland Society.

In 2011 an implementation plan proposed by the partners was approved by the Scottish Ministers and this sets the basis of driving forward the development of this nationally important development area.

Who wants to live next to the airport? If you fancy a modern des res snuggled between the A8 and the flightpath then head up to a one-day exhibition next month for details of a massive new neighbourhood.

The super high density housing shown in the Evening News picture looks a lot like what I saw in Freiburg, Germany recently. It seemed to work because:

a/ Mega good trams
b/ Mega good cycle paths and connectivity so that:
c/ Everybody cycles everywhere.

In the UK, with British Standard 'cycle paths', the car addiction and jams on the A8 already every rush hour, I don't see it going well.

If they really do want it to be a cutting edge place then banning non electric motor vehicles would be a good place to start. Putting 2000+ extra electric cars onto the A8 every day can't be a bad thing (if it crowds out the others).

Hemmed in by the airport, there's not really any option for Transport Opportunities involving wheels-on-road vehicles to not involve the A8 at some point, unless tunnels are involved.

Maybe there's a secret plan to make everyone who works at Ingliston or the airport (or possibly Gogarburn, perhaps with a few International Businesspeople who fly to work) move to the new development, so that the tram to the airport fulfils all their transport needs, what with there being 24/7 shopping streets so close to home.

Maybe if integrated ticketing gets sorted people could take the tram to the Gyle to be able to switch to an exciting array of bus services (if those leaving from the airport are unsuitable), if they could be persuaded to walk across the car park to the bus stops.

"New Ingliston" is owned by Highland Properties Ltd. If you would like to be inspired by some of their <strike>out-of-town shopping sheds</strike> architectural wonders, have a look here.

You can be assured that building thousands of properties along the A8 will have nothing but a very positive impact on the atmospheric pollutants levels on the Glasgow-St Johns-Corstorphine road .

Edinburgh Napier University business commentator Graham Birse said connectivity both into the city centre thanks to tram line, and overseas with the growing number of international flights from Edinburgh Airport, had combined to make the project an attractive prospect.

"What we’ve seen at Edinburgh Airport in the last few years is phenomenal growth, both in passenger numbers and the frequency and diversity of services to international destinations. That opportunity can only be developed further..."

With the environment going to hell in a handbasket.

What about 'connectivity…into the city centre' by cycling?

Of course - until some brave developer comes along and 'modernises' it.

Green Belt is so last century.

"

Plans to turn fields and scrubland into a new district filled with office space, shopping streets and more than 2000 homes have taken a major step forward.

"

http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/west-edinburgh-expansion-step-closer-to-reality-1-3672690

Bound to have high quality bike corridors built through the site first - and connecting links in all directions (paid for by S75 money).
