Was there ever a fatal accident inquiry into the death of Dr Wilson? I've never seen anything about it. How long after a death do they take place?

The good news about that test ride is that if only 3 out of 12 bikes had lights, and those had batteries running out, just by having lights with fresh batteries you are standing head and shoulders above the masses (and I can't remember reading of any Edinburgh cyclists killed at night - there was the chap killed by the speeding drunk at Kirkliston, and the chap crushed by the left-turning Neil Williams Haulage truck..?)

After an evening of fettling with the road bike I decided to treat myself to a ride around town in the dark and the rain about 11PM last night to make sure my workmanship had been up to the task.

I have 3 findings;

1 - replacing the old bottom bracket for a shiny new external cup one is like riding a whole new bike
2 - the cassette I'd spent an hour getting sparkly clean cassette is no longer sparkly or clean
3 - I didn't really see any other bikes out. However I did actually pass about a dozen other bikes.
Of these;
3 had front and rear lights

2 had rear lights only

none of the lights looked like the batteries had been replaced in them since last winter

the other 7-odd bikes had no lights at all

noone was wearing anything hi viz or reflective

I have resolved to buy more and brighter flashy things. Perhaps if I can find a compass to show me which way is "north" I shall go to TBC.

Off to visit the distro this morning anyway so will pick a new one up there. And some new pedals. And some new gloves. And some yummy treats. And....

Beam shots for the roadies light, i've gone for a more conventional electro chemical generator after the buses kept running over the cabling. Got a bottle full of batteries to run it.

hmm, took gloves off tonight on the way home as it was so warm. this was good.

What wasn't good was then hearing my Cherry Bomb (which i thought i had lost but found today in my gore jacket pocket!) jump off my poor mounting on a pannier strap.

Then what was worse was hearing an Astra crunch it into the road...

Lucky the Petzl was on the back of the Tubus for emergencys!

Anyway, this is irrelevant. One of those rides home tonight that got the grey matter in motion. Weird day of mixed emotions...

rtc - winterbiblongs -Last winter I bought a stonking pair from, where was it again, oh yeah The Bike Chain - Gore about £65 but very toasty and quite quick drying. They say (Gore) that the pad gets better the more you wear them but I believe this to be phooey

srd - with all these wee lights, best to by the CRO32 batteries off tinternet as very cheap

Batavus do the same front light only from the generator trick. It saves them a few pennies on parts and they don't need to run a cable to the back light.
