I have done the Grangemouth section several times now, often from polmont train station which is a nice downhill, also from the canal. Yes there are probs more scenic routes. If I were cycling I would take the road put of Bo ness to Grangemouth and take the first right into the industrial area. Follow that rd over the next rbout and over the railway bridge before taking the 3rd exit towards Kincardine bridge. Then at the main rd turn right and immediately left at the canal.
