Falco does proper Austrian coffee complete with glass of water (I'm told - we were going to go there on Saturday but there was no space.... we did get some nice bread)

Agree that it won't be cheap, though.

I don't like the cafe much as it is. The coffee is awful and you have to drink it out of china cups iirc. It's a nice spot, with a view of the gardens and the power station chimneys. But it feels like you're sitting in a neglected conservatory (which you sort of are).

Tragic news. I discovered Cockenzie House two years ago. Proper home made cakes and a refreshing change from the usual shops; you felt like you were contributing to something worthwhile locally.

It sounds like we've lost the best tea stop in East Lothian. I don't know Falco, and I'll concede the coffee will probably be better, but now it will be just another, posibly overpriced, commercial coffee shop.

Gembo, it was a nursing home, it's now a charitable trust providing space for artists and small businesses. The Great Tapestry of Scotland was shown there. It's a bit of a rabbit warren inside. After the power station it is on the left behind a high wall.

Looks like it was most recently a nursing home? I have been through cockenzie a few times but cannot picture where it is. Though 22 edinburgh road seems obvious.

Falko is Konditoromeister

Will be pricier than Apple pie bakery of Carnwath (though everything is). Manajer, he manajer

Closed dates noted.
To be honest, we rarely go east from Edinburgh as we live west of the city centre and so have to cross the city to get out into the countryside. But a longish pootle to vist a Falco cafe might be nice.
