It’s important to be consistent.

For what it’s worth that was by and large a decent deputation.

David Hunter of Living Streets Edinburgh started his deputation by quoting from the introduction to the Council’s Active Travel Plan. Strangely, he managed to miss out the word “cycling” entirely from the “walking, wheeling, cycling” part

…hmm…

The City of Edinburgh Council’s Transport and Environment Committee (or ‘TEC’) will meet this Thursday, 2nd April at 10am. As usual, we’ve scoured the agenda for cycling and road safety contents, and written up a summary of the agenda.

Thursday looks to be like a key day for the future of the Greenbank to Meadows quiet route, with a Green group motion [PDF] ensuring the clock can’t simply run out on this vital safe walking, wheeling and cycling corridor in the south of Edinburgh. But there’s as yet no sign of how the Labour administration plan to take this matter in hand.

Sneaking it in here and there; taking advantage of the outing/adventure and resting period cadence of life with smallish kids. I bump through it using the webcast chapter markers and speed controls (1.5x for most folk speaking) - having looked at the background of items the week before helps, as does having a bit of a ‘format’ already locked in. Probably four hours total or something like that all in.

Cammo walk is also mostly covered by a motor vehicle prohibition. So the only part covered by the change would be a blind bend shortly before a cul-de-sac which often has cars parked on both sides.

There's a very small chance that a wee bit of Society Road would go from 60 to 20. I imagine they will just be changing the 30 section to 20, rather than extending it as well.

Can anyone tell me which of the included roads is currently 60mph? Sue Webber MSP is complaining about the effect of bus timetables from reducing 60mph to 20mph.

As far as I can see, the only road in the list which may currently be 60mph is Cammo Walk: a narrow country lane now surrounded by new housing estates (including a primary school). And no scheduled bus services.

A fellow South Morningside parent submitted a petition for safety improvements around the school after their child was hit by a van on Morningside Drive. That's been accepted for discussion at. Transport Committee next week - Thursday 12th - and I'm going along to help make the case. Does anyone have experience of presenting a petition at Committee and suggestions on what to look out for? We're just going to prepare a 5 minute statement stating our case, and then prepare for questions. Not expecting any hardballs as it's a child safety issue, except maybe some sniping from the Conservatives about the Greenbank Meadows Quiet Route but would appreciate any advice.
