Noticed yesterday evening that the turn into Belford Road is just signposted No Through Road, while the turn from Carlton Street to Dean Terrace in Stockbridge is signed No Through Road except cycles.

I was heading out for a wee meander through midlothian this morning. Google maps told me i could get out to Straiton via Gilmerton Dykes Road.

When i got there, a No Through Road sign temporarily got me a bit irked. Decided to "risk it" only to find the road was quiet, reasonably surfaced, white cycles were painted on the road - FULL LANE! and indeed I could nip through onto Lasswade Road. So surprised I was at finding this easy route, I looked about me, only to look ahead again *just* in time to avoid cycling into a bollard! Was a bit sheepish even though no-one would have seen it!

Maybe cyclists are just supposed to know these roughts are through routes after all?!

alternatively "no through road for motor vehicles" sign would mean we don't need to stick up extra signs correcting the initial incorrect signs.

When we're out for walks, I often "lead" us down dead ends in the expectation that there might just be a way through. Usually there isn't, but I liked to explore the potential.

Today I rode past 3 different roads* with 'no through road' signs on them, where cyclists and pedestrians can still get through. I don't understand why these don't have 'except bikes and pedestrians' on them. is there no such provision in the various regs?
