So are you going to chase the 4 Leith Walk councillors who, 2 days in, haven't responded at all (a Green councillor amongst them) or just complain about the 2 non-Tesco ward Tories who have at least given (valid-ish) responses, even if they're not to your liking?

Personally I think this is buckpassing.

Iain promoted the idea of hire bikes years ago (before Boris) - so not just about his ward.

At least he supports cycling.

Maybe get Nick on the case??

“Presumably Tesco, possibly via sympathetic local councillors (Susan Rae?).”

Yes, but Tesco clearly don’t understand/care.

Are those stupid red things ignorance or contempt?

I think canonmills Tesco was first Edinburgh supermarket with covered racks. Always rammed. The racks came out of the ground with sheer volume of use. They did fix them but have struggled to increase volume. Despite the opening of the Rodney street tunnel. The red things are hopeless. The big issue vendor used to look after your bike if you were just nipping in.

Yup racks are rubbish as well. One near the entrance which is always overfull and some pathetic red BSO thing right at the pedestrian pinchpoint towards the carpark - never seen a single bike on that one. They dgaf unless you're driving.

Why does Tesco care so little for people who arrive on foot from New Town and North Ed?

Why is CEC so keen on promoting ‘technological solutions’ rather than enabling existing ‘active travellers’??

Also, just to keep the anti-this-store vibe going, the silly big wooden Tesco sign at the entrance completely obscures the dropped kerb at the top of the slope from left turning traffic:

https://goo.gl/maps/ykKDK

My solution is to have myself of the wife push the massive toddler-buggy across whilst the the other stands two metres uphill in the middle of the access road to stop traffic. Seriously.

Have written to them about this, but was so pleased that we got the Big Hello of Death moved that I didn't push it. Now may be the time!

"I assume as cars can carry more away from Tesco they prefer customers to arrive by car, or better still van!"

Yes

BUT

(My bold)

"

These changes, experienced by all the "Big Four" supermarkets, suggest that the era of the once-a-week big shop is nearing an end. People are tending to buy less but are shopping more frequently and have "segmented" their shopping, buying items from different places based on either price or convenience.

Silly Tesco. Cyclists get to eat more, they should be encouraging people with transportation-induced appetites. Cake sales could be quadrupled!

Also, as the road-way in is one-way from Broughton Road it feels like you're going the wrong way when trundling over from any of the path-access points.

I am pretty sure that is not actually one-way. It just looks like it is. The bin lorries and a few other things go in and out the same way.

When I was there on Friday afternoovening the shed-racks were full, the red stands empty and every white pillar along the side of the car park path had a bike on.
