The lure of Wheelcraft.

Been through Kirky on way to join the Strathkelvin path. Tandem run to Helensburgh. Roads in town seemed well used and parked on. Entrance to cycleway up an embankment.

There's plenty of cyclists a wee bit north of Kirkie. It might be due to the presence of big Al.

But I don't think shared space is 'Dutch'. Not in this way, anyway.

Came across a radio debate from Kirkintilloch on Radio Scotland's Question programme which prompted me to see how the re-thinking of streets is going on in other places. Hardly any speakers were in favour with a belief that Dutch style solutions should stay there.

The Kirkintilloch Herald has this:

The scheme has encountered widespread criticism and protests from the public, particularly from disabled campaigners, who handed in a petition with 3,500 signatures to the council. As part of the project, the council wants to remove traffic lights, safety barriers and drop kerbs.
Gold-medal-winning
Paralympic swimmer Lord Holmes, Parliament’s sole blind member, also commissioned a UK survey on shared space schemes. which revealed most are against them.
Sandy Taylor of East Dunbartonshire Visually Impaired Forum said: “Any legislation which empowers the community is most welcome as it will prevent the council from imposing a dangerous, non-inclusive and fundamentally flawed scheme.

“The shared space scheme would already be in breach of The Equality Act, as it would exclude many visibly impaired, disabled and elderly pedestrians from accessing many areas of the town centre. It would also contravene this new Act for similar reasons.”

Marco Biagi: Shared space must have public support

Sustran's John Lauder takes an opposing view. The radio programme though didn't think cyclists were a risk factor. Maybe too few in Kirky? Tactiles weren't mentioned either.
Sustrans blog about shared space in Kirkintilloch

Meanwhile outside my house tour buses, Gold Brother Ferraris, rickshaws and pedestrians freely mix. No signage - just slow motion chaos!
