Yeah that's what I got not really that bad but imagine it's just an allergen response!

Hmm. I get wee red vesicles on the backs of my hands when harvesting it, but assumed it was just a normal response to whatever anti-personnel measures this particular species has evolved.

I am not at liberty to discuss what happened to the bamboo. It is in a better place now.

One thing is that I discovered I'm very allergic to bamboo and still have bright red patches on my underarm from cycling with it!

I forgot to mention it on the feedback survey but I thought the leafiness of the bamboo was a positive addition to the visibility of the politicians.

I saw a couple of pandas at the event so perhaps they ate it.

I hope it's not still stuck in the grass. I would be indirectly responsible for the destabilisation of the parliament building by the invasive roots. As the owner/operator of two child's I have plenty hankies, so do what you wish with the leaf-restraining one.

@Wingpig - thank you very much for the bamboo. I hope you weren't hoping for it back as I have no idea what happened to it. What I do have is a handkerchief that was holding some of it together - if you would like it back (suitably cleaned) PM me an address

I've still got enough fresh-cut leafy stems for a few signs, with a larger pile of pre-trimmed unleafed stems also available from last August's triffid-amelioration programme. More importantly I can get them into town rather sooner than the morning of the event this year. I'll harvest what I can this evening.

It might be different next year as I'll shortly be chainsawing the prime out of the remaining rootclump to get the bits small enough to stick in a pot, to stop the spade-destroying invasive horror trying to sneak under the wall and destroy next door's greenhouse floor.

Gaffer tape works fine for attaching a large poster to a cane to make a flaggy/placardy thing. I'd link to an appropriate image on Flickr but they've changed their layering again and I can no longer select the BBCode from my phone.

I think a placard like effect could be reached easily with holes punched in top and bottom of a landscape piece of laminated paper.

B&Q sell 20 4ft bamboo poles for £4.

I can confirm from the results of a process using a significant amount of child labour at Greenroofer Towers on Monday that A4 laminated with 125micron film and hole punched at one edge can be securely fixed to said bamboo with zip ties. However the result is a flag/pennant, not a placard (assuming that's what you want).

Long enough to be conspicuous (it's for the signs for 'meet the politicians') but still practical on a bike. Or anything really

Good idea

I have a bad feeling that the usual supply of bamboo has been hacked down in its prime ... but if anyone has a few poles going spare and could get them to Laid Back Bikes tomorrow afternoon I would be eternally grateful.

If they have any clever ideas about how some laminated A4 signs might be attached to them, I would be even more grateful.

I could endeavour to return them mostly unharmed but that would entail finding me in the chaos of the POP aftermath
