Festival time ban finished.

"

Only two bicycles can be carried per tram. Cyclists should stand at the centre section, marked on the platform by a disabled logo tile, and take guidance from staff.

Cyclists remain with their bicycles at all times.

The Evening News coverage of this:

http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/cyclists-allowed-on-edinburgh-trams-in-may-trial-1-3754270

Some really positive* stuff in the comments.

I'm inclined to give this a go one lunchtime to test it out but don't want to then inadvertently prevent access by someone with a real reason for wanting to get on with a bike.

@dougal. Yes the new path is loved by all. Council owned that ground I assume as was a municipal golf course that donated the first hole to the tram (carricknowe, sight of my only ever below par front nine, was going well on the back nine until a Wildly sliced drive from the 12th whizzed past my ear on the 11th and then it was time for old gembo to fall to pieces again (quote from great Andrew Davies comedy a very peculiar practice).

This very forum discussed at length how delightful it would have been if the stenhouse path had gone up to the tram bridges instead of down to the pedestrian crossings as then we would have as you allude to, one long continuous, joyful swoop.

Given how short a distance the tram really covers, if they could guarantee segregated cycle paths along the length of it then nobody would be interested in taking their bike on board, I'm sure. At least not in any huge numbers. The route running parallel with tram along Broomhouse/Saughton segment is marvellous in my experience - at least compared to Haymarket and other urban junctions.

Off Peak, for May only as an experiment. Prams, buggies and wheelchair users take precedence. Two bikes only per tram. Driver discretion.
