Bizarre. I think I saw one of these on MMW this afternoon. Smaller than I expected. And the feet balancing bits are fore and aft, not on the side like pedals. When I saw it coming I thought it was a motorized skateboard - the front was all lit up.

I particularly enjoyed the badly translated description. especially the bit in bold

Excellent tool to go work, school, date and so on
Perfectlly finish the "the last 1km" after coming out from the metro
The best way for you to travel in the heavy traffic
Self-balancing unicycle is the smallest, most convenient and low-carbon vehicle
It is the most portable vehicle with a built-in carrying handle whose weight is only 10kg that you can easy to carry it on the bus or subway
Self-balancing unicycle is composed of super magnetic levitation motor, wear-resisting silicone, aviation aluminum pedal and wear and antiskid tyre

Saw one in action two days ago. Probably guy that's selling them.
Actually the ultimate wheeled urban assist device is possibly a folding scooter.
Or inline skates (but not on cobbles).
Or a folding bike.

I look at such things as transport entertainment. Of course same thing could be said of bikes I sell!

I have seen someone riding these! I forget where. I don't think anyone shouted at him to get off the pavement though. Does it count as a bike? Would a user be obliged to ride on the road?

I suspect it doesn't come with any of the anti-tank features of the Monowheel.

Nothing to do with super-conduction, nor levitation then...

I noticed they say on the site suitable for the last km after getting off the metro. I presume they mean figuratively because any one who can drag this around to save them a ten minute walk of a 1000m has seriously messed up priorities.

Read an article about this last week (guardian, maybe?) and the journo said it was incredibly difficult to manoeuvre, and all he ended up with was sore shins from when it cracked him as he fell off (for the umpteenth time).

Concept seems to be a bit like the Segways - lean forward and it will go - but you have to let your natural fear of falling disappear.

Might have come in useful for me last night, got a bunch of flowers for wife at waitrose without thinking how they would fit in the carradice..........

There's a thread somewhere from years ago mentioning the non-powered scootery versions of such things; I think ARobComp said he had one or had tried one.

Finally. Looks like punctures might be a bit of a pain to change, with at least four screws/bolts holdoing the shell together.

So, I was reading a story on the EEN and an ad for this popped up:

http://m.banggood.com/Wh-TG-F3-264Electric-Wheelbarrow-Balancing-Unicycle-30-35km-Endurance-p-948467.html It even comes with lights and training wheels/stabilizers.
