Didn't know you could do that with VLC! Thanks for the info.

I use the JetAudio media player, which has a 'capture' button to screenshot the paused frame. Getting it to stop on the right frame to snapshot is always a bit hit & miss, so will use VLC in future for captures.

Thirded VLC. The frame-by-frame skip through is a very useful feature for getting the best possible still. Have also used it on the Contour Roam 2 which I have.

I'll second VLC media player. It's what I've previously used to capture amusing* stills from video.

(*by amusing I actually mean stupid driving, including someone driving one handed while drinking a coffee whilst overtaking me whilst turning left).

If you use VLC media player which works on all modern operating systems, you can pause the video and step through each frame one as a time by pressing 'E' . Once you find a frame that looks good, right click on the image and select Snapshot. (or go to the Video menu)

You can also make it play it from 1/4 speed to 4x speed (Playback menu).

Some media players offer a function to export stills (at the resolution of the video file) - I use Media Player Classic, where ALT + I quickly exports the current frame.

Thanks @SRD, just copy and paste a print screen? I'll try that.

I've used screen grabs of paused footage.

sorry to hear you've had an incident. doesn't sound good.

I was involved in an incident this morning and wanted to use stills from my camera to identify the man concerned to the police. Can't seem to see a way to get stills - has anyone managed this with theirs?

Alternatively I could send the whole footage.

Thanks in advance.
