It does say "was mowed down" but also "in a freak accident" so the language and 'blaming' could be worse.

A very sad incident and my thoughts are with his family and friends. Looks like comments now removed.

This has raised a technical question in my mind: Is there any legal obligation to exchange details following a collision on a shared use path (or anywhere off the highway)?

Typically for the EEN they describe him as being 'mowed down.

Shameful of them to leave the comments open on the story of a death. We all know why though - they'll happily be gathering the page hits for advertisers, and when more than enough people kick up a fuss about them leaving comments open they'll claim it was 'an accident'.

Don't remember them ever leaving any comments open accidentally when a car was involved in a death.

Poor bloke. Thoughts with his family, especially - as has been pointed out on the EEN - when the paper is using his death to whip up the usual anti-cycling bile to boost ad revenue.

http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/tributes-to-jogger-left-brain-dead-after-cyclist-crash-1-3783351

Based on the information in the article it suggests that after the cyclist and jogger collided that the cyclist stopped but "no details were exchanged" (otherwise it would have said that the cyclist didn't stop). At the time of the accident, Mr Craig did not seem to be badly hurt but later at hospital they have diagnosed "serious brain injuries" from which he has since sadly died. This is a very sad incident and a tragic loss for Peter Craig's family and friends.

A police spokesman said they were eager to track down the cyclist - described as a man in his early twenties - and any witnesses, but insisted there was “no suggestion of any criminality.”

People in the Chipwrapper will be calling for blood, but I think it's worth noting the perspective that it seems it may have been an unintentional accident on some shared-use path.

"We're terribly sad this morning to be hearing reports that Peter Craig, Jog Leader of jogscotland group Livi Road Runners, has passed away following a collision with a cyclist while he was out jogging on Saturday.
Our hearts go out to all Peter's family and friends".

I saw the story on Facebook and after the first few sympathetic comments, it soon descended into the usual rants about pavement cycling, red lights, road tax and helmets.
As Baldcyclist says it is a shared use, unsegregated path like most in Livingston.
Maybe I should have joined in with a comment about dog walkers with extending leads, people wearing earphones, or pedestrians walking right down the middle or else side by side with their buddy blocking the path...

I suspect that use of 'footpath' was deliberate.

Hope the pedestrian recovers :(

Hope the pedestrian recovers quickly.

Not like the Evening News to get detail incorrect in the story ( ;) ), and not that it changes the seriousness of the incident. But the Loan path is a shared use main cycle route, and not the Loan 'footpath' as stated.

Can just hear the "pavement cycling bla bla" comments already.
