Despite living in the city centre I have yet to make it to a bike breakfast at the City Chambers due to a lack of knowledge for the first couple of years of my cycling renaissance, and then a combination of running late or being on the wrong side of town (i.e. planning failures on my part) in the more recent years. Maybe next year...

There's a bike breakfast at the Bike Bothy on the campus at Heriot-Watt University on Thursday 25th, 07:45-10:00.

Simple answer is that this (perhaps) isn't about feeding random 'new cyclists'.

I've always felt that the BB was as much a reward for people who cycle already. But I do like to listen to the speeches. Lesley Hinds was visibly enthusiastic about having been on her bike a few times, and talked about being free to decide when to cycle and when to walk or take the bus.

The City Chambers isn't remotely on my own commute unless I'm en route to a meeting likely arranged by someone not planning to attend the BB! I passed the Alpine Bikes pop-up stand and assumed, on account of my great speed, that they were just doing a Dr Bike kind of thing and trying to muscle in on Greasemonkey's patch.

Also said hello to DaveC, Dave, Morningsider, Kim & Ulli, spotted Suzanne Forup, and remarked quietly to myself that all the people from Edinburgh Bicycle seem to be younger than ever.

"or have mini-breakfasts on some of the busier bike commuting routes around Edinburgh?"

Well...

Was hailed and offered "Starbucks' coffee" (close to PY too!) person seemed unaware that this was same day as Spokes one.

"Why don't they either move the location every year"

Simple answer is that this (perhaps) isn't about feeding random 'new cyclists'. The 'council supports cyclists' and 'chance to talk to politicians' elements are intentionally important.

Wilmington has organised a few informal breakfasts on the wee lump beside the road at the start of the downslope on the hill in previous years. A few years ago there was a suggestion for Bike Week to have breakfastlets in a few key places to show people passing in enclosed vehicles how nice it can be to be able to jump off and consume foodstuffs without the whole find-a-parking-space thing.

Was talking about this on Twitter with Wilmington's Cow this morning. Why don't they either move the location every year to a different bike commuting 'hotspot', or have mini-breakfasts on some of the busier bike commuting routes around Edinburgh? It's currently restricting itself to those who pass by on their route, or make the effort to divert and/or who struggle up the 'ruddy big hill' that must be climbed from three directions to get there!

(There used to be a 'Cycle to Work Day' breakfast at the Ritz in Edinburgh Park during Bike to Work Week, but that stopped a few years ago. I never even made it there either, as it didn't open until an hour after I'd arrived at work - and I'd have had to get my freshly-showered self back into my sweaty cycling kit and wheel my bike across to prove I'd cycled in order to get the free nosh!)

Different thinks to different people!

Free Spokes map if you get there early enough.

Free breakfast of a bacon/sausage/scrambled egg roll, juice, tea/coffee sort.

Chance to meet your associates

Opportunity for politicians to praise themselves

Info stalls (some) with prizes

Dr. bike

Police bike marking
