You weren't the Dad I had in mind, but if you have further contributed to Mrs Paddy's education, thank you, thank you and thank you again. I owe you a Friday night beer in the Tav...

The case for a new bike is now open and shut :-)

I treated myself to a Croix de Fer a couple of months ago. Although I'm a light rider and it's not a light bike, the 35mm tyres it came with are fairly fast-rolling, and combined with the 725 steel frame make for a very smooth and comfortable ride. I routinely get to work 5-10 minutes faster than on my old Revolution Cross, and I'm sure that's partly because it's so effective at soaking up the bumps. It's perfect for detours through the rougher parts of the Dalmeny Estate when I want to take the scenic route. Recommended!

Commuter bike is a standard hybrid, same as before, mainly for carrying micropaddy to nursery on the back, before trundling on to work.

Thinking of what a Evans call an "adventure road bike" to match the 80-20 rule. On a typical leisure ride or extended commute, 80% of my miles are on the road or tarmaced paths, but 80% of the fun comes on the 20% off road...

I'm too much of a chicken to do any "proper" MTBing

Maybe a geneis croix de fer which looks like it will take abuse from someone of my large dimensions...

We are currently a 4 person, 2.5 bike (+1 balance bike + 1 trike) household. My 0.5 bike being dead means I am off the road until the new one arrives, hopefully Thursday.

On the plus side, Mrs Paddy was talking to one of the other Dads at the school and he was incredulous that I only had 1 bike. This means that her sample size of 2 have 9 bikes between them and she has let it be known in a temporary moment of weakness that a 2nd bike may not be inappropriate. That has been taken as a fully signed off endorsement and the hunt is on.

I may have to tidy the garage first to allow room for it, but that is a reasonable compromise.

My wife picked up a nice new step-through hybrid from Hart's yesterday. Of course, I had to have a wee test ride. It's very nice.

There's nothing like trying out a new bike to get the craving started. Although I'll need to downsize my collection first as my wife is now catching up! We're currently a seven bike household, having been at zero three summers ago......
