“

If they want to reconsider my offer, I am all ears. Nonetheless, I am hopeful that the planned works for the area (now out to tender) and the ETRO process will lead to a positive outcome.

I can’t remember to what extent this is ‘true’ -

“

I lost the vote when I asked that there should be "a more clearly defined cycle route between Greenbank Crossroads and the Meadows, and how this interfaces with Comiston Road." Others thought they knew better on re-opening Braid Road.

“

https://mobile.twitter.com/cllrscottarthur/status/1624079588736245761

Something about ‘the greens’ adding an amendment that didn’t have the intended effect(?)

Whatever the ‘truth’, that’s the Transport convenor (in the current administration - albeit trying to govern from a minority position) saying nothing can be done to deal with the problems created - either immediately or ‘ever’ it seems.

Meanwhile masses of work on Leith Walk (with various degrees of effectiveness) in response to various issues of drivers misbehaving.

Aftermath -

“

Yes, it’s fouled the quiet route. Playground chat at SMPS/Canaan Lane PS is that many parents have stopped using it as a route to school now. Pieces of the quiet route are still usable but that junction puts people off joining it from Greenbank/etc.

I live not far from Braid Road and cycle it daily but knew nothing about this consultation.
The traffic/driving round there is indeed terrible. It gets used as a 'short-cut' to the 40 mph Comiston Road, so drivers tend to feel that they have to drive Braid Road at 40 mph to prove that they have taken a quicker route.
In my view, the sightlines on the downhill (west) side of the road mean that cycle lanes would be lethal unless parking was completely banned. Currently you have to take a strong primary to avoid being T-boned by vehicles coming out the side roads.
Cycling uphill (east side), I spend most of my time looking over my shoulder to make sure I've been noticed as vehicles weave in and out of the parked cars and pinch-point chicanes at the aforementioned 40 mph. A cycle lane on this side could be useful as differential in speed between cycles and vehicles is quite large. But any cycle lanes would be pointless unless they were free of parked cars.
I'd like to think the forthcoming 20 mph speed limit will make this stretch a lot safer.

"one of the proposals is to add cycle lanes to the road"

All well and fine, but would be better to bollard some of the rat runs - obviously the traffic-flow-council and driverist-locals wouldn't like it.

Friends of mine who have moved into the area fairly recently went to a neighbourhood consultation about the Braid Rd and/or roads in that area. It's a terrible rat run.

Apparently one of the proposals is to add cycle lanes to the road, which might entail the loss of some parking.

They were appalled at how anti-cyclist the residents were.

Anyone on here go? know more?
