We had soup there, and then cycled to Gullane for coffee and cake at Falco before returning to Edinburgh with 120km or so under our belts. Saw teams He was very chuffed to see Wiggo in person, and to get a free Tour Of Britain cycling cap. We were on the 'wrong' side of the barriers for getting up the hill, so it took us a while to get up, despite jogging we missed the riders as they re-entered the park. Ah well we did our best, and got some exercise into the bargain.</p> <p>Oh yeah, on the way there, we were walking down Croft-an-Righ and were passed by police on motorbikes escorting Brenda's Bentley to the park. I presume they were there to pick her up from the royal chopper (which I saw later) and deliver her to Waverley for the chop-choo ride. I did sort of tag onto PV ride but wanted to get out past Gifford. Good seeing such a turnout at 8.30.</p> <p>After Gifford I encountered the Balerno Fietsclub led by Gembo. He got top points for having mudguards in my book! I cheered on anyone with panniers too.</p> <p>A few young riders out. Hopefully with permission.</p> <p>On way back I stopped at Saltoun school - they had gone to a lot of trouble to put out a brilliant bike display. Down the road was the community cafe where I met Mike Bonnar and others .<br /> Found that my bike was around 1mph slower on average speed and was undergeared. Still a nice thing to see so many out. Arobcomp on red stone, came back via garvald with theo which was excellent, met fimm on the descent.</p> <p>Great ride out and back just over seventy miles from Balerno. Good banter on the hillside. Anti climax when the peloton came through, but knew that would be the case. There was a twelve year old girl went up faster than the pros but I guess it was too early in a long state for them to be totally hammering it. </p> <p>Loved that KOM started and ended with a cattle grid. Theo did excellent bunny hop on the cattle grid at bottom of whiteadder descent.
