"

As Robert Kennedy famously stated in 1968, ‘it (GDP) measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.’ We need to remember our economy is a means to wellbeing, not an end in itself, and a measure of the scale of economic activity alone is not an adequate proxy for how well Scotland is really doing.

"

"setting the stage for the new Queensferry Crossing to become a major commuter corridor"

Actually the closure of the existing bridge to cars means new bridge will become 'major commuter corridor'.

Don't suppose bus companies have said what new/extra routes/services they are planning(?)

"not terribly helpful"

Yes but 'we' don't understand the importance of such sustainable economy enabling investment.

All the Scottish Gov and Transport Scotland seem to want to do is build more roads not terribly helpful.

"Perhaps if"

Perhaps perhaps, but this is more the preserve of the Scottish Government/Transport Scotland.

There is already SEStran which looks at transport/travel across a wider area but has little money/power/influence.

"

SEStran is one of 7 Regional Transport Partnerships in Scotland. Our partnership area includes 8 local authorities, within an area of 3,180sq miles and is home to 28% of Scotland's population.

"

http://www.sestran.gov.uk

Perhaps if (Southern) Fife was actually brought under CEC a more joined up traffic policy could actually be implemented.

This has been the case for decades! I suppose they need to present it as 'news' in order to justify copying and pasting the developer's press release. Paid advertorial perchance?

Well the headline isn't exactly news!

"

A £500m development across the Forth in Fife has cleared its first hurdle, setting the stage for the new Queensferry Crossing to become a major commuter corridor.

Hundreds of new homes are set to be built as part of the Rosyth Waterfront masterplan after councillors and developers broke a ten-year deadlock over how a 120 acre former naval fuel storage yard should be regenerated.

Property experts said the new housing could see young families who have been priced out of the Edinburgh property market flee across the Forth in search of their first home, expanding the borders of Edinburgh’s commuter belt even further.

But councillors in the Capital expressed fears that western approaches to the city, already choked with traffic, would struggle to cope with a flood of new commuters, and called for improved public transport services to help deal with the influx.

"
