@bax indeed, which makes me wonder whether a warning system along the lines of the BBFC film classification guidelines could be applied to road infrastructure? e.g.

no infrastructure likely to offend or harm;

mild peril;

infrequent signage, and one use of strong conflict;

strong bloody violence from the start.

It is so calm and laid back it almost looks like a public information film. Doesn't look real at alll!

Who would be the appropriate Council people to Tweet this to? It's a lot cheaper than taking a team of them to the Continent for a fact-finding mission - they just need to sit and watch it for a few minutes instead!

The hypno effect seems to be down to the uniform speed of the motor vehicles - drivers all showing mature consideration

Compare and contrast to the aggressive wild west cowboy motoring style tolerated in Scotland

@Arellcat There are smaller versions of this roundabout; This one is about 40 meters in diameter.

It of course depends if you care more about motor car flow capacity or people flow capacity.

Lots of cyclists and mini-moped users at the moment. What a lovely thing to watch – all the car drivers ceding to the cyclists, flowing lines for efficiency...

But for a roundabout with one circulation lane for motorists, one bike lane and the footpath, that's a lot of land take. It'll never work here because developers are just too focussed on maximum return on their crammed-together boxes with as little road as necessary.

Thanks for this link. My first thoughts included 'where are all the bikes?', but that must have been during a quiet spell as soon as there were far more than we'd see around here, although there were still more cars than bikes. Most of the car drivers seem to be giving way when they should, with only a couple of times harsh braking needed (by cyclist and driver) when not enough attention/consideration given. Interesting that many (most?) of the cyclists indicate either to show that they are going across the crossing or not. Also interesting that this doesn't seem to be run as a roads demonstration project or traffic/police monitoring but courtesy of the nearby software company
