A primary objection is that insufficient detail is given of any alternative cycling routes.

If I am not wrong, the path shown in Frenchy's picture leads to two flights of steps down to the burn.

Clearly not acceptable as an active travel route. And very disappointing compared to what Taylor-Wimpey had previously agreed to.

Please object by 27th Nov if this concerns you.

Persimmons homes have submitted an order to stop up the right-of-way through their new housing estate.

https://www.tellmescotland.gov.uk/notices/city-of-edinburgh/traffic/00000192115

Persimmons seems to have taken over from Taylor Wimpey as the developer. Previously, Taylor Wimpey agreed to provide an alternative parallel path beside the burn. This seems to have been conveniently dropped by Persimmons.

Please object if this concerns you

I have not been able to keep up with the plans for the various sites at Edmonstone, buy I an fairly sure that they will actually improve it as a cycling route.

New path from The Wisp to Little France Drive was approved last week too.

This photo (13th March 2018) shows the potential fencing off of a longstanding walking and cycling track made years ago I think by Edinburgh Council.

edmonstone fencing by Ed, on Flickr

The map shows the location of this track. https://goo.gl/maps/defRraEQsss

The track goes round the edge of the old Edmonstone Estate and allows you to avoid Old Dalkeith Road and The Wisp, both busy roads. You can cross almost directly to a traffic calmed road through Danderhall.

It would be a pity if this pleasant route was lost to development.

"In fairness the big road is buses, taxis and bikes only"

Er yes, but it's WIDE, so cuts 'park' in two.

Unless...

Previous plans used to include a park along the Niddrie Burn. All a bit disjointed currently.

In fairness the big road is buses, taxis and bikes only (if it's where I think it is). Though when I rode through there a couple of weeks ago, I did wonder how long that would remain the case with all the house building going on.

"We are seeking to ensure there are cycle and footpath connections between the site and Midlothian"

Well yes, but I suspect that will depend on adjacent developments.

It will also need there to be some new paths in Midlothian to make much difference in a practical sense.

From CEC Planning service (?)

(my bold)
"""

The Planning service has been in contact with the applicant of the proposed development, The Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, since January of this year.

We are seeking to ensure there are cycle and footpath connections between the site and Midlothian. I have recently spoken with the applicant and told them we will be submitting comment to them in response to this proposal. The applicant will be holding two open exhibitions on the proposal on 1st and 2nd September. These will be at The White House, Craigmillar (4-7.30 pm) on 1 September and Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre, Moredun (4-7.30 pm) on 2 September.

A second Pre Application Notice (PAN) (ref. 15/03214/PAN) has been submitted to City of Edinburgh Council. It includes much of the above site, and also additional adjacent land at Edmonstone at The Wisp (all of it within Edinburgh) for a residential and park development. The applicant is Sheratan Ltd. There is a public exhibition for this second proposal at the Hays Business Centre (3.30-7.30 pm) (Hay Avenue, off Niddrie Mains Road) 18 August. The Planning service will also seek further information on this proposal.

For clarification, if that is helpful, at this Pre Application Notice stage no planning application has been submitted to the planning authority for assessment. For these two proposals the applicant is required to publicise them and consider any comments received for incorporation into the planning application when it is submitted to the planning authority.
