If coming from the west then ingliston or riccarton. I favour the latter, allows canal towpath access to Edinburgh. Guess depends where your amigo is going to in Edinburgh.

Just watch out if you use bike racks on top of your car as the car parks have height barriers. ..

Perfectly OK for all Edinburgh P&R sites, including those managed by other councils than Edinburgh (e.g. Sherrifhall is in Midlothian).

There is also the extensive use of informal park and ride, with many folk bringing their car in to the edge of the permit holder zones - this may provide a nicer route than the official car parks, as you could park beside the appropriate cycle route.

Combine browsing of the permit areas:

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20083/parking_permits/577/parking_permit_map

Or on street parking tariffs (roughly coincides):

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20085/parking_spaces/507/parking_bay_locations

With Cycle Streets:

http://edinburgh.cyclestreets.net/journey/

Or the Innertube map (yes, we know there's a glaring hole in the innertube!):

http://www.innertubemap.com/

And you can find a nice offroad route from your chosen parking spot to your destination - the official P&R are along arterial bus routes, so not so nice on which to cycle...

Robert

Yes. I've done the same from Hermiston. No problems.

One of my friends is likely to be doing some work within Edinburgh but it's too far for him to cycle all the way (he lives in the West of Scotland). To avoid central parking charges, can you use the park and ride at Ingliston or Hermiston Gait to 'Park and Ride (a bike)' rather than getting on the bus or tram?

I know some park and ride facilities need your ride ticket before you can exit. Is it the same in Edinburgh or is cycling from them allowed?
