@gembo Love Will Tear Us Apart was great - got a big round of applause from the St Bernard's Well crowd - and I particularly appreciated Das Model.

The whole set was a good mix to demonstrate the brass band repertoire - some classic competition pieces, some trad stuff, some music from films, some 70s/80s stuff, some younger poppier stuff for the kids (presume one of the things I didn't recognise was from Frozen).

In addition to PP great perfs from Steve Tomkinson as striking miner reduced to children's entertainer. Plus my two favourite actors in the one film - the big lad with the black hair that is married to imelda Staunton and the other big lad that plays the grandfather in raised by wolves. Check out raised by wolves on the channel 4 I player. Caitlin Moran's teenage years

Pete Postlethwaite's look when Tara starts playing is just genius. Still remember seeing it in the Cameo.

I heard all three mini concerts in Balerno. Love will tear us apart and das model were highlights. Went down to see them but also listened in my garden. Brass bands can be very cheerful. Anyone who missed this great event should watch the film brassed off. Less cheerful but one of my favourites.

Followed the list above and turned up at Roseburn Park at just after 5. Confused by the absence of a band. Checked the website to find that Harrison Park had replaced it as the venue, so went down to Saughton Park instead.

Only caught the last three pieces, but a very nice event - wish I'd seen it all.

According to Canmore, Yeaman Place is the Walker Bridge, and Ashley Terrace is the Lockhart Bridge. Harrison Road has the Harrison Road Bridge.

I've never heard of the Re-Union Bridge, but would have expected it to be in the vicinity of Wester Hailes to mark the reunion of the two halves of the canal for the millenium, but those ones have prosaic names like Drumbryden Road Bridge.

Fanfare is a city-wide event that harnesses the enormous forces of Scotland’s community of brass bands by working with the Scottish Brass Band Association to present a day of free performances for everyone to enjoy, inspired by the performances of En avant, marche!

Taking place on Sunday 23rd August 2015 at 12 noon, 3pm and 5pm, audiences across the city will be able to share the joy and passion of the live brass band. Everyone will be listening to the same pieces of music at the same time in at least 12 different locations around the city.

The first brass bands, many of which still exist today, were formed in Scotland in the early 1800s and are among the earliest forms of music ensemble in the country. Hundreds of bands grew up in both urban and rural areas as working people seized the opportunity to share their creativity and talent. The brass band was, and still is, an art form that is from, of, and for local communities.

Fanfare aims to capture this spirit of community by inviting everyone in the city to experience the joy of brass band music together.
