@Arellcat, if it helps, you don't need a Kindle to read a Kindle book.

There's a browser version:

https://read.amazon.co.uk/

And apps for other clients (not just PC, despite the link):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/kindle/pc

I asked at Waterstones this afternoon. A paper copy might appear at some indeterminate time in the future.

"that mobility is, in itself, inherently desirable"

That of course is a 'fundamental' that most people might find hard to grasp in practice.

'We' - perhaps unquestioningly - want more/better cyclepaths and perhaps 'a better share' of roadspace..

And why not - it's cheaper, 'better for the environment' than another Forth bridge or an upgraded A9.

Of course many of 'we' welcome the Borders Railway - 'we like trains', 'it should never have been shut', 'people like living in the country/commuting' (maybe).

Meanwhile, hardly restricted, private vehicle access to central Edinburgh really isn't a great idea.

John Whitelegg is also referenced, in a similar theme, for example in Pucher & Buehler's "City Cycling" book.

It seems that Mobility is on Amazon, to pre-order for September, but only if you have a Kindle, which I don't. I may have to ask at Waterstones and see if an olde tyme paper edition will be published.

"

“Mobility measured crudely in terms of how many kilometres we move around every day has nothing whatsoever to do with quality of life, rich human interaction, satisfaction, happiness and a detailed knowledge and familiarity with places and the things we chose to do in those places.”

Our roles as transport professionals or campaigners are always related to the assumption – however unstated that assumption may be – that mobility is, in itself, inherently desirable.
