I’ve bit the bullet after developing a bit of outer knee pain which I’m putting down to cleat position. Not cheap but hopefully does the job (I’ve booked Dougie based on the recommendations here)

Edinburgh Bike fitting still going from a new shop on leith walk.

Also another place down on Salamander street called Bramblers although one of the audax guys decided not to go there, not sure why.

I'm going to be visiting EBF in next few weeks to try and sort out a recurring bit of shoulder pain I get. My Physio recommended them as well.

Be good if they did have bike parking now.

email conversation from last year (there's still no info on their website):

"
Hi Baldcyclist,

We do not have any designated cycle parking at the venue, however there are areas where you are free to chain the bike up on your arrival.

Kindest regards

"There will be a secured cycle parking facility available onsite for all visitors who travel by bike."

I've asked them for more information about location and capacity.

"Lots of bike parking there I assume"

Only if the event is providing it, the place has none.

I attended a conference there last year and emailed them about bike parking, and they emailed back saying "there are some railings outside the venue"

That is where I parked, but from memory, there was enough room for maybe 8bikes. Maybe there is more now, or maybe they just anticipate the 'cyclists' will be turning up in their Audi's?

Yes WC... as ARobComp says it's worthwhile. The Retül rig looks at all aspects with relation to saddle height, crank length, stem angle etc

It can of course suggest bikes that fit most closely from a database held (unfortunately!)
Although neighbours with 'The Sector', Mr Shaw will not flog you an Enigma or Storck! You may be temped though as the favoured waiting room is that side of the linked businesses here. LB bikes is closer though which does worry some of EBF's clients. (ie by associating with deviant cycling).

He does a lot of fittings and can work in a time to suit you. Give him a call / email and have a look in at LB too. We've been four years here now.

Doug is very good at fitting and has many many fits under his belt - he's also a sports scientist and has raced extensively. I had a fit and from fitting my cleats through to positioning the road bike for a more aggressive but more comfortable fit whic put less pressure on my hands. He also critiqued my pedalling style and we investigate what size frame would be best for me for a new CX bike.

I'm not going to say I kept 100% of the fit I ended up with - over time I've adapted a touch here and there, but it was a very valuable experience and since then my body position has been much better, and less pressure on my arms.

I've managed to get to a (fairly slow) 10k running pace over the last 6 months and am much fitter than I've been in years but last time I was mountain biking I was reminded how weak I am in the upper body. I wonder if something fairly simple would be a good idea for that.

My drumming teacher is a devotee of kettle clubs which just seem brutal. But yeah, have got a new fitness regime planned (I went for a run last night....! Just a slow 5k) which has some upper body stuff.

At the very least I've been told I need bigger arms before I'm allowed to have my mid-life crisis 40th birthday tattoo next year.

I can't comment on bike fitting (although I am sure it would help) but I also feel sure that some upper body strength training would help also. You don't get the strength you need for cycling from cycling and with cross you must have to lift the bike and so on. I am thinking some kettlebell or balance ball type stuff rather than traditional lifting barbells up and down.

And do they check you out on your current bike / give you the details to be able to change the setup of that? @laidback?

Acutely aware after half an hour of cross racing of being hunched and my shoulders being ridiculously tight (photos confirmed my descent into hunchbackedness as the last race went on). Looking to see if a setup could help relieve that, as well as make me a bit more efficient.

p.s. I'm sure there was a thread about this before, but I can't find it!
