Why don't they just drive through the park? 30mph all the way from Meadowbank Terrace to the Palace.

35 Due to traffic congestion buses are not serving East Norton Place and are instead diverted from Montrose Terrace via Marionville Road, Lochend Road back on route at Duke Street, northbound only until further notice.

This probably explains the throng on Leith Walk this morning too. I thought it was a bit earlier than normal for that quantity of traffic. Well maybe I'll take the NEPN home just to avoid all that again.

Lengthy morning queues northbound on Colinton Road, too, now that they've built a pedestrian crossing at the bus stop/entrance to Napier, about five houses up from the main junction.

I'll be glad when I can revert my morning routine to 45 minutes later than currently.

Need one at the top of Abbey Lane, too. If I'd been a car I wouldn't have been able to fit through a small inter-car gap yesterday evening.

@crowriver there's now a big sign at approach to Montrose Terrace from London Road saying "keep yellow box clear".

Reading between the lines, what it actually says is "obey the rules for yellow boxes, like you're meant to".

Oh I particularly enjoy the drivers who think they'll "just squeeze in" and cross the junction with Montrose Terrace, sitting in the yellow box, hoping to pass the second set of lights. Of course the lights turn red, the pedestrian phase comes on, parents and kids start to cross, but no, the drivers just keep going, hoping no one will notice and they can carry on to the next queue: all to gain a few seconds advantage over the drivers who obeyed the law and refused to endanger pedestrians.

I do love seeing people sitting there, the queue in clear view, no chance of it moving, and they just feel they need to do something, so beep the horn.

"Traffic chaos" right through most of the day too. All because of a few road closures (Abbeymount, top of Easter Road) and revised traffic lights sequence.

Maybe all the single occupant vehicle drivers should just leave the car at home and take public transport instead, or *gasp* walk or cycle into town? If even 20% of them did so, the tailbacks would disappear...

Have just seen the other thread and condor's post above - hadn't realised they were going to be there that long. It's traffic chaos I tell you!

As you say cb, surely can't be hard to have opposite directions going at the same time - I genuinely can't think of a single reason they wouldn't do that at this junction the way the works are just now.

I'm not sure I've ever seen temporary lights that let opposite directions go at the same time. Can't be that hard to do surely?

"I'm not entirely sure why east and westbound are not given green at the same time"

Presume it's the same '4 way lights' that were in use yesterday (outside 'rush' hours) at Buccleuch St/Summerhall junction.

Don't think I've ever waited so long at a set of lights!

Riding in this morning I decided to take the road route. Huge queue of traffic just around Meadowbank Stadium. Bus lane free (save a few impatient chancers), I scoot by. All down to temporary lights at the top of Easter Road. They're a longer, but not by 'that' much, sequence, and it's causing that big a tailback. Cars at all sorts of angles at junctions, trying to force their way in, or having become stranded. All because of one single little set of temporary lights.

(I have to admit I'm not entirely sure why east and westbound are not given green at the same time. Westbound can't turn right at that junction anyway, so doesn't have to wait for eastbound to clear; and eastbound can't turn right because it's that road that's closed, so doesn't have to wait for westbound to clear. Unless there's something more dramatic planned.
