We're always on the hunt for Ceps. Got spoiled on a recent holiday in Burgundy, the forests were awash with massive examples of the things!

p.s. you're right about the Innocent - I don't mind mixing with traffic, but I love taking that route every single morning.

"any idea what kind of mushrooms there were there?"

Didn't see any I recognized. Big, flattish, light brown ones with gills mostly. Will look them up.

Sadly I didn't make it up (although my usual Sunday morning Figgate wander gave me Long-Tailed Tits and the elusive Little Grebe, so I was happy). Sounds great though - there's actually a fungi foray there this coming Sunday I think - any idea what kind of mushrooms there were there?

Anth - thanks for this. We had a nice afternoon ride across -- started a bit late so rode en cavalcade with soon-to-be-big-sister on bike seat and her bike on trailer, until we got to the Innocent, after which we all rode (and she rode the 4 miles or so back on her own). At 38 weeks, I find I am much more mobile on bike - but we must have been quite a sight.

Anyway, getting into the reserve was cool - we have often peeked over the locked gates and wondered what we were missing. Didn't see any terribly exciting birds but the guided tour was interesting -- mostly about the trees and conservation of the area. Turns out it was brownfields until the 1970s,when they started planting trees, building ponds etc. Most interesting.

And the Innocent was just lovely (as always). Very jealous of those of you who get to ride it on a daily basis.

PS - after we got all the bikes etc locked up, woman on gate said 'oh, do you want to bring them inside?'. We'll know better next time!

Pretty easy to access by bike, and loads of railings to chain to (though not sure how secure it would be, but then I'll likely be walking from my house!).
