Maybe they need to fit diffusers like you get with the brighter LED bike lights?

Yeah I must admit on balance I prefer the vastly reduced light pollution.

While the 'spotlighty' LED lighting might not be the best for illuminating bike paths, it certainly is awesome for not creating light pollution.

Fitted to our street now, the tenements no longer have an orange glow and above the street lights is pitch black.

Yay for stars.

There's also an overly-long stretch of darkness approaching the bridge overhead at Ravleston (heading in the direction of Roseburn). Suspect it's because they knocked down and removed one of the lights there a month or so back.

I presume this is LED street lighting as has been getting rolled out in various parts of the city to replace older sodium lamps.

It is much brighter than the old lighting so maybe the contrast is an issue?

Used the path tonight after lighting up time for the first time since they put in the new white lighting. It is terrible IMHO. Far too 'spotlighty' with small, really bright pools of light leaving large dark gaps in between. Unless someone happens to be under a light they are effectively invisible. Absolutely unsuitable as a lighting system for a path.
